How to: Asian Chicken Bone Broth Recipe

My latest illness got me craving chicken noodle soup just like my mom used to make. From a box. There is just something about sipping warm broth when you’ve got a sore throat. Being gluten free, for me this means just the broth. Well, that got me thinking: why not try making this bone broth I keep hearing so much about? With so many boneless products on the market these days, people are not getting the same amount of collagen that they used to. There is always the option of collagen supplements or there is a more natural way: bone broth!

Bone broth originated as a Chinese form of medicine to strengthen the blood and kidneys. Eventually the Egyptians aught wind and began using bone broth for colds. Probably why my mom always inited I drink the broth from my chicken noodle soup.

Well, bone brother takes a little more patience than an instant can of chicken noodle soup, but you will get absolutely all the health benefits that you can’t get from packaged foods! That includes the collagen in the bones!

Starting my first batch, I wanted to make it taste as close to those bowls of bone broth you get at Japanese restaurants. So I picked up some ginger; lucky me, my mom had just given me green onions from her garden to use as well! Before we get to all the seasonings and yummy taste makers, first you have to prep those bones. You can find different bone broth recipes that involve beef, pork or lamb. Since I don’t do red meats, I stuck with chicken.

Normally I use my crockpot for Crock Pot Chicken Carnitas Nachos, this time I opted to cook the whole chicken in the oven, I used the meat for dinner and tossed the bones back in the oven to start prepping my bone broth.

The broth has so much flavor on it’s own I don’t add any additional salt, however, if you choose to, now would be the time! Pop these bones in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Then flip and cook for an additional 20. While these are cooking, get your crock pot prepped and ready with your green onions, ginger and garlic.

As you can see, after roasting, the chicken bones have a nice golden glow to them. Put your bones on top of your veggies and then you can fill the crock pot with water.

Now you can set your crock pot to low and let it simmer all night long! I’m talking 24 hours. Told you it takes tons of patience. Yet, this is a super easy 24 hours for you. Sit back, live your lie and let your house start smelling all kinds of yummy. Alright, let’s break it down.
